Jan. 8th, 2010 12:12 amReading Kushiel's Dart instead of more books from the library pile. It's not like they're going to be due soon or anything, right?
It's been a while since I was in the mood for this particular book--it's pretty dense, with lots of politics and complicated interpersonal relationships, and recently I've been on a YAF kick. Something I read the other day put me in mind of it, though, so here I am.
Kushiel's Dart has an extra touch of weird for me, because I've got a tiny little red speck in my left eye. Having that be the mark/cause of the main character's (rather extreme) masochism is just a little… strange. I may think being tied up sounds like a good time, but burning and knife-play and all the other crazy shit Phèdre enjoys even when she doesn't want to definitely don't. And yes, it's fiction and I am real, but that doesn't stop the weirdness, because as we all know reality and I have only a nodding acquaintance when I'm deep in a book.
Edited twice for stupid. Good grief.
