Re-reading the Young Wizards series means that I'll never be able to think of the phrase "just good friends" the same way ever again. I mean, it's already a kind of "…really?" phrase in everyday life, but in YW it seems to be a codeword for "OMG TENSION but not really because we're just good friends. Really good friends. Really, incredibly good friends who have awkward conversations about how we're just good friends". Which is adorable, but that connotation is now pretty much welded into my brain.
Because really, if you actually have to say that you're just good friends, chances are pretty good that you're trying to dance around one or both parties being interested in something a little more intimate than that.
