Busted out my little sampler of Seraglio again, as it was much too warm and muggy today for Dorian. Boosted with a little spritz of rose water this morning, it lasted like a dream--I was still catching little whiffs of it almost twelve hours later--and it wasn't too heavy for the weather, which I ended up spending much more time in than I expected. I really ought to buy a bottle of the stuff, and I'm only holding off because a) all signs point to an interesting update sometime this month and b) theoretically this perfume has spices in it, as well as yummy rose, orange, and almond. I'm terrified that my little vial is a freak, and that the real thing will be heavy on the spice instead.

In other news, I'm apparently not getting enough sleep, despite the fact that it's summer break and I've got no job. Today the circles under my eyes were so dark that I ended up putting on some concealer and hoping it wouldn't melt off my face, just so [livejournal.com profile] wyrmscrest wouldn't think the Zombie Apocalypse was upon him when we met for dinner.

Despite the lack of job, I have found a couple of projects to keep me busy. For one thing, I'm helping out with a North Carolina Governor's School fundraising effort to help offset the tuition for future students, so that no one will feel they can't apply because of financial hardship. All of my GSE friends ought to be hearing a lot more about that sometime soon. The other thing I'm doing is a systematic overhaul of the robes for the children's choirs at our church. They're the same robes I wore when I was in children's choir, and they're definitely showing their age. In addition, they look to have been hand-made in the first place, and in some places the level of finishing could have been higher. So, I'm going through and mending ripped seams, sewing velcro back on, taking up sagging hems, and tacking down facings. I anticipate this being a somewhat long but satisfying project. There's always something nice about concrete results.

Anyway, it's time to put my poor eyes to bed. My brain, as usual on these occasions, will probably lag far behind.

I'll miss being able to sleep all the time when Monday comes. I will especially miss it on Tuesdays, when my day starts three hours earlier than any other day of the week. Stupid biology lab.

On the other hand, I shouldn't grumble too much, because the only other section of Bio 112 was at night and it had a lab on Mondays right through Choral Society, and I need this class to get my A.A. So it definitely could have been worse.

In other news, my big bottle of Dorian finally came, so now I can smell nice without restraint.

In other other news, I had lunch with Kris today at City Beverage. Lunch and company were both excellent, although I think we may have made out poor waitress a little crazy waiting for us to leave.

I love Dorian. It's so… comforting. Stressed? Neck hurts again? Nightmares seem to be making your brain a regular stopover? Put on a little Dorian, wait ten minutes, feel better.

Today is definitely a Dorian day. It's cold and grey and my neck hurts and my brain hates me. I can't stay in bed and pretend the world doesn't exist, but at least I can smell nice.

Just read 602 reviews of Dorian and tallied up the number which were positive.

I just read 602 reviews of Dorian all the way through.

Argh. Sleep now. Tomorrow I will be reading 750 reviews of Snake Oil and doing exactly the same thing. Then I get to turn it all into math.

I really think more guys flirt with me when I'm wearing Dorian.

This random thought brought to you by my math project (Dorian vs Snake Oil- Who Will Win?!)

Ugh. What a day. Just got back from two hours at the emergency vet with Thriii because… well, it's a long, gross story involving me and cleaning up a lot of cat shit. She's fine. Let's leave it at that.
Anyway, because of that lovely little adventure this evening, I just got home, and I haven't had any dinner yet. And there's still more shit to clean up before I can take a shower and have dinner. In that order. With lots of soap. I'm not actually dirty, it's just one of my little quirks--I shudder to think what changing diapers will be like.

The good news is that my most recent BPAL order is shipping earlier than I expected. This has brightened my evening somewhat, although not as much as a dinner of scrambled eggs and a chocolate peppermintini (my mother bought this stuff. seriously.) while watching Gaudy Night for the 100,000th time will. After a long, hot, shower with lots and lots of soap. Did I mention lots of soap? And hot water?

And maybe a cup of tea to finish off the night.

Argh.

Well, tomorrow I'll go to the farmer's market and buy lovely beeswax candles and honey. And probably blueberry bread and chocolates from Dolly Mama, if we're going for honesty here.

Is it bad when your perfume makes you kinda want to nibble on yourself? God help me if I ever meet a man who smells as good in Les Infortunes or Dorian as I do--I'd be doomed at first sniff.
Also, I totally never expected to love anything with a leather note this much on myself. But I totally do. It really just needed a week or so in the bottle to mellow out.

So, anybody else into BPAL?
Anybody KNOW anybody else who's into BPAL?
Anybody WANT to get into BPAL?

I've got some imps I'm willing to part with, if that last is the case. And some I'm willing to let you try, but definitely not let you have.

Ever get the feeling that somebody is trying to avoid you?
Yeah.

Anyway, my BPAL order came! So exciting. So far the usual assortment of hits and misses. Today I wore Miskatonic University, "the scent of Irish coffee, dusty tomes, and polished oakwood halls". On me, it smelled like coconut, and I spent the whole day thinking about how nice it would be to go to the beach.
Instead, life permitting, I'm going to Boone this weekend. It will be nice to have a social life again, even if only for one brief, shining moment. I definitely haven't been getting out of the house enough.

Wearing Dorian again today, as I wait impatiently for the shipment notice to arrive for my BPAL order. Soon there should be new lovelies! I'm pretty sure the notice should come today, since some other people who ordered on the same day I did got their notice yesterday. God bless the other bpal.org forumites for being so good about updating that thread…

Also, I did indeed wear Dorian today, and I take back what I said--it is a little masculine. Apparently I just like smelling like my imaginary boyfriend. What can I say? He smells good.

I think I'm going to start keeping a perfume diary. It will be interesting to see what I wear, and why, and how often, and how my impressions change, especially as my BPAL collection grows.

So, yesterday I wore Les Infortunes de la Vertu. It was a second try for me, because while it has notes that I really love (amber, oakmoss, rose), it also has a pretty strong leather note. The first time I wore it all I could smell for about an hour was leather, which wasn't really what I was going for. Yesterday, though, it was much nicer and gentler. The general effect was sort of like being cuddled up next to a guy wearing a leather jacket and later finding that his cologne has rubbed off on you. In my book, this is no bad thing. The only thing that would have made it better is if I had been cured up next to a guy wearing Les Infortunes, but you can't have everything.

Today I wore Two, Five, and Seven, which is pretty much just rose. I love it, but it fades so quickly, and it goes really sweet on me. My most recent order has a different rose in it (The Rose, from Marchen, since I think all of the Mad Tea Party scents are probably on the sweet side), and I'm hoping that will turn out differently.

I'm thinking tomorrow I'll wear Dorian. It was a free sample with my last order, and technically it's a men's scent, but I really like it and it doesn't smell particularly masculine on me.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.
